Holiday Activities

Dundee Place Holiday Activities.

Dundee is a popular recreational spot for fishing (especially saltwater Barramundi). The Finniss River boasts excellent Barramundi and crab fishing. The Perron Islands located approximately 50 km south of Dundee are popular for reef and pelagic fishing.

Dundee is surrounded by monsoon rainforest that is abundent with native wildlife including some unique birdlife such as the Rainbow Pitta and the Rose-crowned Pigeon. The area is also a great wading bird habitat with terrific bird watching locations like Shoal Bay to the north, Anson Bay to the south and Fog Bay. The Perron Islands contain the Territory’s largest and only pelican rookery.

A drive to Berry Springs is a popular activity because of the crystal clear natural spring water pools which are surrounded by natural bush. There are three main pools along a length of the creek, beginning with a small waterfall and shallow pools suitable for smaller children running into larger, deeper pools and finishing with a small weir. The weir keeps the swimming pools full, but below the weir is crocodile country and swimming is definitely not recommended past this point.

The Berry Springs Park is open from 8.00 am to 6.30 pm daily from around late April to late December. The Kiosk is open from 11am – 5.30pm daily from April – November.

The Park Information Centre has pictures and descriptions of the native fish, birds, lizards and other animals that can be seen around the park, including small wallabies and water monitors.

As part of the Berry Creek catchment, the area can become flooded during wet season due to heavy rain and is closed for safety reasons.
